The Syunik-Development NGO, within the framework of the Beekeeping Development Project in Vayots Dzor Province, provided Buckfast beehives to the beekeepers of six settlements.

The aim of the project is to increase the development of bees and increase the production and quality of honey. Buckfast bees are more fertile than common bees. Buckfast bees lay up to three thousand eggs a day. They are not aggressive, and they are hardy. Buckfast bees work well from early spring to late autumn, which increases the volume of honey yield.

This project is experimental in order to observe whether the Buckfast bee colonies perform better than the local bee colonies in the Vayots Dzor Province.

The priority of selection for these queen bees was given to the nine eligible beekeepers who first joined the program and have vast experience.

The project was implemented in cooperation with Atken Armenian Foundation and Tekeyan Armenian Cultural Association.
