PROVISION OF BEE COLONIES TO FAMILIES MOVED FROM ARTSAKH TO VAYOTS DZOR REGION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Considering beekeeping as one of the most important branches of agricultural development in the region, Syunik-Development NGO has been implementing the Beekeeping project in Vayots Dzor since 2016, with the support of the Canadian Atken Armenia Foundation.The project aims at solving a series of environmental and social problems in the region.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION: Beneficiaries involved in the project are provided with several beehives and bee colonies with beekeeping supplies. The beginner beekeepers take part in various practical courses and training conducted by the beekeeper specialist to develop knowledge and become more skilled in the field. As of now, there are 35 trained and skilled beekeeper beneficiaries, who increase the number of bees and honey production yearly.
INVOLVEMENT OF NEW BENEFICIARIES: With the new cooperation established between the Tekeyan Cultural Association and Syunik-Development NGO, eight displaced families from Artsakh, who settled in Vayots Dzor, were allowed to re-engage in beekeeping development, as those families lost everything due to the war and could only save their lives.
FURTHER PLANS: Vayots Dzor region is known for its landscape diversity and relief zoning. Taking into account the beekeeping development perspectives in the region, the project aims to promote the mission of a strong economy, and accordingly, of building a strong homeland.
