From June 21-27, 2019, Syunik-Development NGO conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) which aimed at providing youth leaders and beginner facilitators from Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine active in the field with important skills and knowledge on conflict analysis, management, transformation, mediation, and resolution. The project was part of Syunik-Development NGO’s Social Development Program funded by Brot für die Welt. The Training course will improve relationships between countries like Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine by supporting their mutual recognition, strengthening their friendship, and fostering the exchanging of experience. The project aims at promoting a common peace vision in Eastern Europe: Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine and prepare youth leaders to serve as trainers by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead and facilitate conversations on conflict analysis, management, transformation, mediation and resolution. The ToT was held in the LucyTour Hotel located in Hermon Village of the Vayots Dzor region in cooperation with the Georgian Youth for Diplomatic Engagement NGO and Ukrainian Centre for Euroinitiatives. The project was carried out through non-formal education methods which included individual and group work, interactive games and exercises, discussions, as well as question and answer sessions. The training was conducted by Nana Hovhannisyan, one of the best trainers in the field working in 818 Consulting Company. Thirty students from higher education institutions of Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine, as well as young people and leaders actively involved in the activities of non-governmental organizations, participated in the ToT. A cultural evening was part of the training during which time the participants had the opportunity to present about their respective cultures and traditions as well as raise awareness about their national values. Follow-up activities will also need to be conducted by ToT alumni within six months as a way to bring their experiences back to their communities. Finally, in the third year of the project, a concluding conference will be conducted in Armenia, which aims to share the project results and experience. Syunik is confident that new contacts and experience sharing opportunities will be created as a result of this work.
